CU Books Hotels For Giant Freshman Class
University Says Hotels Are Short-Term Solution
The University of Colorado has reserved hotel rooms for some 40 students because it does not have enough dorm rooms for the record-size freshman class arriving later this month.Housing officials said the rooms reserved at the Broker Inn are a short-term solution. The university expects some freshmen to be no shows, which will open up space in the dorms. The housing contingency plan is among several accommodations that CU officials are making so there are enough living spaces and courses available for the freshman class, which is estimated to be 5,750 students, reported the Boulder Daily Camera.
CU's interim director of housing and dining services said there will be a residence adviser living in the Broker Inn to help smooth their transition to college life. The freshmen will also be encouraged to eat in the dorm dining halls and participate in residence-hall programs.Renting the rooms at the Broker Inn is not expected to cost the university extra money because the money will come from the room and board fees paid by students, officials said. Not all incoming freshmen are excited about the idea."Having to move from hotel to dorms, I just think would be more of a hassle," said Kate Russell, an incoming freshman.
