Fashion Critic Mr. Blackwell Seriously Ill
Business Partner Did Not Give Nature Of Illness

LOS ANGELES -- Sharp-tongued fashion critic and designer Mr. Blackwell is in the hospital with an illness his business partner called "serious." The 85-year-old Blackwell has been hospitalized and unconscious since Tuesday, his partner Robert Spencer said by phone Thursday from his home in Los Angeles. Spencer would not say what hospital was treating Blackwell, nor explain the nature of his illness.
Blackwell, whose first name is Richard, has for decades issued an annual "Worst-Dressed" list famous for its tongue-in-cheek cruelty.
