Colo. Man, Friend Rescued After Clinging To N.J. Buoy

Pair Was On River When Canoe Flipped

POSTED: 9:58 am MDT August 7, 2008

Highlands police said that two people had to be fished out of the Shrewsbury River after their canoe flipped.

Highlands Police Chief Joseph Blewett said a 23-year-old Highlands woman and a 24-year-old Colorado man went for an early-morning canoe trip Thursday when the accident happened.

One of the pair was spotted holding onto a buoy.

A worker at the Sandy Hook Bay Marina heard calls for help.

The worker, along with a person who lives nearby, jumped into the water to help. Along with emergency workers, they rescued the pair.

Police say the woman was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
