SUPERIOR, Colo. — Neighbors in one Superior subdivision say they aren’t just worried that a young man appeared on a couple’s porch after midnight and attempted to enter the home, they’re worried it could be connected to a string of suspicious fires and an arson from earlier in the month.

“When you realize someone’s trying to break into your house it’s startling,” the homeowner told Contact7, too concerned for her own safety to reveal her identity.

The man was captured by a Ring camera doorbell at 12:30 Monday morning. The video shows him looking around, checking on the front door, pulling out a flashlight, and then eventually leaving without getting in.

What makes the video more concerning for neighbors is the recent string of crime in the Rock Creek subdivision. Last week, there was an arson just around the corner from where Monday’s incident happened. In that case, someone set fire to an object and placed it inside the victim’s home after entering through an unlocked door. That was the most recent in a string of fires the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office called “suspicious."

“I think it’s related,” one neighbor said.

“I think it's a logical conclusion to come to,” the Ring doorbell homeowner said. “Arson would be much more frightening than someone just breaking in.”

Contact7 called the BCSD to see if the incidents were related, if the person on camera matched any arson suspect description, if it was a break in or possibly even a misunderstanding. As of Monday evening, authorities had not responded to those calls.

“I don’t know what he was up to, but I know it wasn’t his house,” a subdivision neighbor said.

“You think you’re safe and secure in your neighborhood bubble and that’s not always the case,” another added.
