DENVER – A man suspected of stealing a Denver Parks and Recreation truck was caught hiding in a dumpster after a brief chase downtown.

The truck was stolen shortly after 8:30 a.m., according to Denver police. Colorado State Patrol pursued the vehicle on I-25 for some time before the suspect headed back downtown.

The stolen truck was spotted near 13th Avenue and Grant Street around 11:30 a.m., when the driver allegedly tried to hit an officer while driving the wrong way down 13th.

Denver officers briefly chased the driver in the stolen truck around the downtown area before it terminated the pursuit.

The man abandoned the vehicle in a parking lot downtown and ran off.

Several nearby schools were briefly put on lockdown for safety reasons before the suspect was found in a dumpster on Clay Street between 26th and 27th avenues and was arrested.

Police have not released the identity of the driver or the possible charges he faces at this time.
