DENVER — The National Western Stock Show started its 113th show by setting a new attendance record.

Officials said 53,806 people attended opening day on Saturday, beating last year’s record by 837 people.

“These are the best sixteen days in January, and we are delighted so many people came out to celebrate Colorado’s Western tradition with us this weekend,” said National Western Stock Show President and CEO Paul Andrews. “Between the exciting pro rodeos, barbecues and fiddle competitions, it was a tremendous way to kick-off the one hundred and thirteen-year-old event.”

Overall attendance in 2018 was 705,574 people.

The National Western Stock Show runs through Jan. 27.
