WELD COUNTY, Colo. — It's been nearly two weeks since one of the worst days of Kelsey Bohnenkemp's life.
The woman and her boyfriend were driving near County Road 60 1/2 and CR 53 in Weld County when a car hit them, causing the truck they were in to roll into a telephone poll. The next thing she remembered was that she was in the hospital with a fractured skull and neck. Her boyfriend, Bridger Frederick, was paralyzed from the waist down.
Their dog, Millie, was in the bed of the truck during the crash. Millie ran off and they have not been able to find her since November 3.
"It just makes me sad that Millie could be out there somewhere and I can’t do anything about it," Bohnenkemp said.
She is unable to drive because of her injuries. The couple just moved to Ault last month. They have no family or friends to help in the search for the 3-year-old boxer.
That's why Tania Moore and Dee Grantham, two complete strangers, stepped in to help.
"We are out here at least once a day looking," Moore says.
"I just felt for them. I just knew they needed help," Grantham explains.
They both saw a Facebook post from Bohnenkemp's mother. Grantham even went to the hospital to get the clothes Bohnenkemp wore they day of the accident, hoping Millie would catch a scent.
"I have animals now and I would want somebody to help me," Grantham said.
Those clothes, along with food and water sit next to the scene, in case Millie comes back.
Moore and Grantham have had no luck in their search but they're determined, inspiring the woman they are trying to help.
"It shows me that there are still good people in the world," Bohnenkemp said.
Millie is about 60 pounds and has a spotted belly. She is chipped. Her collar was found in the truck at the scene.
