DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. – The Colorado State Patrol is looking for a second car that may have been involved in a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian dead after he was struck by a vehicle on I-25 near Larkspur Monday morning.

According to CSP, a 19-year-old man from Aurora was on the western edge of southbound I-25 near the Larkspur exit shortly after 4 a.m. when he stepped into traffic and was hit by a box truck driving in the right lane.

CSP says its investigators believe the man’s body ended up in the left lanes of southbound I-25 and was hit by another unknown vehicle, which then drove away from the scene.

The box truck driver, a 23-year-old Denver man, stayed at the scene and cooperated, but CSP says it is looking for the driver of the second vehicle to speak with them.

CSP says investigators believe the driver “was unaware what was hit and are seeking information, not charges against them.”

CSP says no charges are currently pending in the crash and the name of the man killed is being withheld until his next-of-kin are notified.

The road reopened about four hours after the crash occurred.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call CSP at 303-239-4501 and to reference case number 1C183745.
